Game of thrones/song of ice and fire
« on: June 18, 2011, 01:14:49 AM »
Anyone watched or read this? Fantasy series on HBO that I torrented (I don't even have cable no way in hell I was going to be able to watch this otherwise). Anyways its fantastic. The first seasons final episode is this Sunday and I've been so enthralled with the first season so far (nine 1 hour episodes) that I just ordered the first 4 books on amazon for $20, which seems to be an absolutely ridiculous deal, over 3000+ pages of material.

Anyways, if you haven't watched yet and are the least bit interested in fantasy or even enjoyed the movie Gladiator, or hell, if you like well made television dramas, then just watch it. It's so worth it. Give it a few episodes too, it is slower moving, but by episode 5 you should be hooked enough to make it to 9 where you will become obsessed.

I'm definitely interested, is that $20 deal still going on?

If the books are better than the tv show, then they must be some amazing books. I was suprised to find out that they are still making books in that series, it seems like it would have been something writen a long time ago.

Here is the book deal, mine should get here by Tuesday, I am excited.

And yeah apparently the author took a long time between the 3rd and 4th and the 4th and 5th books. I think the first book was published in like 95 or even a little earlier.

It's a series I've heard a lot of good things about, but haven't really had a chance to read yet. George R.R. Martin is notorious for extended breaks between novels, by the way. Who knows when he'll complete the series?

Haha so I've heard. You should check out the show for sure, and I'll let you know how the books are, but based on the show, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Update: I've read 3 books now. Nearly 3000 pages in the last 2 weeks. It's intense.

Wow, how would you compare the first book to the tv show? Also, do you think that after reading the other books, the next seasons will not be as enjoyable since you know what is going on?

All I've heard about it is people saying how amazing it is, ha ha. I don't subscribe to hbo, so I don't get it.

I didn't know there was a book though, may have to pick that up.

I think so. It won't be like watching the first season where I HAD to watch the next episode, but there a lot of cool characters events that I really want to see that'll make me go "Fuck yeah." Reading the first book was still really intense even though I knew everything that happened.

Also the 2nd and 3rd book are even more intense than Game of Thrones.

And yeah Drk... I don't have HBO either hahahhahahahahah, but can't go wrong with books or show or BOTH!
