SPAM - post productively
« on: October 08, 2007, 01:46:07 PM »
More and more recently the staff have been coming across several spam posts on the forums, many of which have been reported by users. This thread is just to clarify what is considered spam, and what you can do to avoid it.

By Spam on the forums, were not referring to advertisements, but rather a specific type, called 'forum spam'. Any post that is not contributing to the thread is considered spam. For example, replying with any of the following

  • A single or even multiple smileys. This adds nothing to the discussion
  • A single word or short answer, like 'yes', 'no', 'your right', or 'I agree'

When posting on the forums, make sure to elaborate on your posts. If you agree with someone, don't just say 'I agree', give REASONS why. Back your posts up with reasons and opinions, and in any case you can, links and quotes to support it. If you don't have anything that can contribute to the discussion, then we prefer it if you don't post it at all. I'm sure we can all apreciate the idea of not having to read a page of everyone saying one word

Cutting down on spam makes for a much more enjoyable forum experience for everyone. Readers can better find what they are looking for without having to sift though hundreds of useless posts. Conversations and debates in threads are much more focused, and stay on topic, making a better read as well.

If you have any questions or concerns about forum spam, please feel free to make use of our feedback section
