Indie giant Crytek has signed a deal with THQ to develop the sequel to Homefront 2, the studio has announced.

The original project was developed at THQ’s New York studio Kaos, before the publisher axed the outfit.

The deal leads the assumption that Homefront 2 will be built using CryEngine, though this hasn’t been confirmed.

“With Crytek's industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we're supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand,” said THQ games boss Danny Bilson.

Crytek co-founder Cevat Yerli said the Homefront series “has a lot of potential”.

He said it was important that THQ “has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties”.

Crytek is currently developing a military shooter of its own, called Warface.

It was originally announced that future development on the Homefront series would be handled at its new Montreal studio.

The underlined point is important. It was not Crytek UK themselves that sorted this deal out, but a representative for the Crytek industry as a whole.

Joshed7:
Homefront isn't even that good.

Cairn Trenor:
So this was the unannounced game?

Edit: Fuck you Crytek. Fuck you generic military shooters. Oh how the gaming industry has fell

timesplittersfan:
That is the sad business reality.
Call of Duty, Battlefield, Medal of Honor(reboot), Homefront 1 are dominating the sales. All military shooters.
Even Crysis 2 didn't reach the Homefront 1 sales.

FezzyBear:
This is the game that Crytek UK will be fully working on. I presume that means either Crysis or Homefront 2 was the unannounced title.
Apparently Homefront is an 'established AAA first-person shooter'. As far as I'm concerned, Crytek can shove this game and future titles up their collective arse.
