I agree with Knives, I'd much rather see someone that actually rocks, a band that carves out its own identity, usch as the VU, The Stooges, Television, or Sonic Youth, than someone who just steals songs from old, dead black blues singers. Hell, even Miles Davis, through works like In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and On THe Corner, rocked harder than Led Zeppelin ever did. If I wanted to hear my dad's music, I'd turn on the Classic Rock station.

Also, radio play is determined by Soundscan numbers- the easiest way to get something played is just to vote with your dollar, or whatever your currency of choice may be.
Eat light, you stupid machine!

I've never cared. All corrupt and mainstream.
I don't care for the charts myself, but I don't know about them being corrupt. Do you mean that there are people who go and buy all the copies of their own song so that it goes to the top of the charts? And really, the whole point of a music chart is that it's 'mainstream'. By telling everybody what the most popular songs are at the moment, it can't not be mainstream.

Today, I listened to two radio channels:
Jazz FM and a station dedicated to popular 80's music. Can people not just be happy that you have different channels for different tastes?
There were a few channels with all sorts of rock music on it. There was one called Kerrang! that had new stuff I would never have known existed. They sort of have their own little charts and whatnot.

There's a reason that what you people define 'Rock' as isn't in the charts. Times change with the younger generation, and the younger generation like their rap music and 'manufactured music'. Just because it's maybe a wee bit more difficult to reach the top as a 'rock' band doesn't mean that those artists (who love what they do no matter what the cost) will just stop making music.
If they're passionate about writing and playing songs, they won't be deterred by Justin Bieber warbling about how many hoes he did last Wednesday, or how many times he's been shot by Tupac's ghost, or whatever he sings about these days.
I think this would be fun if every body was a monkey and have your neck snapped.

I love Bitter Sweat Symphony! It's my second favourite song based on sweat.
My favourite sweat-based song is 'Gonna Make You Sweat' by C+C Music Factory.
