Anyone else see this film? It was in the dollar theatre this week, so I went and watched it last night.
I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. They had a lot of excellent gags that had the whole theatre (that's right, all twelve of us) in stitches. Normally revivals of old shows like this are pretty awful, but I have to say that the gags stayed very true to the old show. Admittedly the plot was rather cliché and unexciting (the stooges' orphanage was severely in debt and about to be closed, so they went off into the world to try to come up with the money and save the day), but honestly, who watches The Three Stooges for a plot? My only real qualm was that the movie was kind of forced to pay attention to the plot toward the end, meaning there were about twenty minutes of relatively gag-less scenes to bring the story to a semi-sensical close.
Even though I wouldn't call the movie "great" (because of the forced plot), I will say that I got more than my money's worth of Stoogery and got to see it on a jumbo screen to boot. So in my eyes I'd chalk that up as a success for this film. However, in all fairness, I might enjoy watching grown men bop each other on the noggin repeatedly just
a bit more than the average Joe.
