Questions about the TS series
« on: May 16, 2012, 11:52:45 AM »
I have several questions regarding the Timespliters series, and I feel like this is going to be a bit lengthy for a COTST post, so I decided to make a topic about it.

Are the R-100 and Gretel series actually evil?

I've not done Robot Factory in a while, but if The Machinist's intentions were to rule the world by creating an army of robots, why were robots trying to stop this?

What's the story behind the Mansion of Madness, concerning the monsters? Where did the demons, beetles, and ghosts come from?

Are Renzo, Goddard, and Schmidt supposed to be the american soldiers of the vietnam war?

Is Captain Fitzgerald and the lot of those soldiers supposed to be the British soldiers bombing Kronia?

Does Hotel tie in with the Mansion of Madness any more than the newspapers lying about that say PANIC! RUN AWAY!

Is Arthur Aching really not dead?

Is Gaston Boucher actually a zombie? I know his head pops off like the rest of the zombies, but why does he have a four star AI and has none of the same stats of the other zombies?

Is Brains supposed to be the monkey from TS2? The reason I ask this is because the monkey TSFP has a blue collar, but Brains has a red collar, like the monkey in TS2.

Was there any part of the story where Nurse Tourniquet/Nurse Sputum is seen?

Did the Time Crystals onboard the overrun space station in TS2 originally belong to the Space Troopers that were killed?

If the artifact in Village in TS1 turned everyone there into Mutants, why are there zombies? And why weren't Dr. Seth Graven and Dr. Katje Nadir turned into a mutant right on the spot when they found the aritfact? Also, what kind of village is only accessible by going through a door inside a tunnel?

Why does Cortez say "I'll never eat calamari again" after he kills Crow?
You talkin to me?I don`t think so! You can just call me HTR!(Wow,that sounded cheesy).

of course no. machines are not good nor evil.

because they are programmed, and most likely gretel and R109 were programmed by people who didn't like the machinist.

it seems crows made them

I suppose I should instead ask if the R-100 and Gretel series were programmed to attack robots or humans?
err, it is the time crystals cortez had to find all along the game...
I'm asking if the Time Crystals had originally belonged to the Space Troopers on the Space Station.

You didn't even answer his question.

I believe the calamari thing is because the crow creature thing he kills at the end looks similar to calamari when it's cooked. Not sure though.

I try Calamari a lot and Crow looked nothing like one. Cortez is a pothead. CLEARLY.

Cortez was once at Chinese Resturant and ate Calamari...

A: maybe it was a rotten Calamari?

B: Was it Chinese Chief making it or Gaston Bucher? (Check Calamari's Gallary in TSFP to get what I mean)...

Just go by either A or B and you get your answear

Also why does this have anything to do with when he says that?... well Free Redical like to insert Jokes everywhere so...

Cortez says that he'll never eat calamari again, because Crow is transformed into a large slimy pulsating tentacle beast thing. The feeling of disgust that Cortez feels after facing the human and squid-like hybrid of Crow is enough to put him off a foodstuff that reminds him of Crow. In this instance, the foodstuff is calamari.

I don't believe Nurse Tourniquet or Nurse Sputum were ever seen in the story.

I'd conclude that Gaston Boucher is a zombie if his head comes off. A high-class zombie admittedly.
I think this would be fun if every body was a monkey and have your neck snapped.

That's a good question about the time crystals.  I assume the time portal is of Splitter origin, due to its alien design, yet it obviously does not run on the crystals, since the crystals are dispersed through time and it keeps on running.  I think they did belong to the troopers, who were trying to backwards engineer the captured time portal, and who had these crystals they planned to use in some capacity for time travel.  Which explains why the Splitters tried to disperse them through time so they couldn't be used.
Kizzar! Here there be TimeSplitter Tales!

Maybe the marines were on a previous mission to capture the crystals, or whatever else you would be doing around there, but they were all killed.

Do you know of the TS Wiki?

Are the R-100 and Gretel series actually evil?
I've not done Robot Factory in a while, but if The Machinist's intentions were to rule the world by creating an army of robots, why were robots trying to stop this?

The R-100 series robots were designed by Ultra-Net (Crow's far-future organisation) to help them win the Machine Wars. However, Cortez manages to reprogram a R-110 in 2243, and after the war ends they are used to take down rogue factories, such as the one run by the Machinist in 2315. Since the first prototype of the R-100 robots was designed in 2052, Spaceways cannot be canon (or simply has the wrong date stated), as this means a R-108 is used in 2035.

The origin of Gretel is unknown, but one is used with R-109 units to take down rogue factories in 2315.

What's the story behind the Mansion of Madness, concerning the monsters? Where did the demons, beetles, and ghosts come from?

Many years ago, a millionaire murdered everybody living in the Mansion (possibly in 1965 to tie in with the TS1 Mansion), but after that The Brotherhood of Ultra Science (Crow's past organisation) sets up a laboratory inside the empty building. In 1994, they attempt to develop immortality, but accidentally create the zombies seen in the level. The other creatures seen are likely to be the results of separate experiments performed by the science team, although they could have been possessed by the lost souls murdered in 1965.

Are Renzo, Goddard, and Schmidt supposed to be the american soldiers of the vietnam war?

Yes.

Is Captain Fitzgerald and the lot of those soldiers supposed to be the British soldiers bombing Kronia?

Yes.

Does Hotel tie in with the Mansion of Madness any more than the newspapers lying about that say PANIC! RUN AWAY!

It's likely that Hotel was simply designed as a 1994 themed map for TSFP multiplayer. Whether it actually has any canon tie-ins is unlikely, as the Mansion was destroyed and all of the zombies supposedly went with it.

Is Arthur Aching really not dead?

Probably not. If you've seen the interview answers that FRD gave us, they are hilarious, but have conflicting ideas about RoboFish. The 'not really dead' thing is probably just a joke.

Is Gaston Boucher actually a zombie? I know his head pops off like the rest of the zombies, but why does he have a four star AI and has none of the same stats of the other zombies?

Yes, he is a zombie. He probably has different stats because he's bigger and rarer than the standard zombies.

Is Brains supposed to be the monkey from TS2? The reason I ask this is because the monkey TSFP has a blue collar, but Brains has a red collar, like the monkey in TS2.

I don't see why they would be the exact same monkey, but it's perfectly possible.

Was there any part of the story where Nurse Tourniquet/Nurse Sputum is seen?

Nope.

Did the Time Crystals onboard the overrun space station in TS2 originally belong to the Space Troopers that were killed?

The Time Crystals originally belonged to Crow (there were only ever 10 of them), but exactly who owned them in 2401 is unknown. What we do know is that the SpaceStation was operated by the Space Marines, as there are signs written in English on board and dead Space Marines littered everywhere after the TimeSplitters arrive. As the Space Marines owned the station, they probably also owned the Time Portal, and the crystals needed to run it.

They're wearing labcoats damnit! Clearly that's all the protection you need! Also it may be that the artifact doesn't work like that - maybe it would only curse the residents of the village and nobody else.

A door inside a tunnel? Just sounds like a really shitty Village to me. This was 1950, when tourism and ease of access wasn't the main thing on the mind of town-planners. Also, the door may have been put in later as a way of installing a quarantine for the mutants. Either that, or it's just a quick way for the developer to define the outer boundary of the map, hoping nobody would notice. If you look at most of the TS1 maps, there is no way out (Streets, Bank and Site are good examples).

Why does Cortez say "I'll never eat calamari again" after he kills Crow?

Because Splitter Crow looks disgusting and has a similar texture to Calamari. Also, it's a clear reference to other parts of the series.

Yep, I'm sure that along with Planet X and Cyberden, the dates were mixed up and Spaceways is supposed to be set much later. I would guess it's supposed to be 2350, although this would be after the Machine Wars, and R-108 would be a dated robot by this time.

The dates are what they are because the TS1 missions are set at five year intervals. FRD put things in the far future in the future levels (as you do) but due to the length of the intervals the missions were not that far into the future.

I don't think R-108 would be that outdated, semi-old technology is used in the military. Even if he was, he might be retired and going on holiday via Spaceways...

EDIT: Oh yep, five and fifteen year intervals. I thought something was off when I wrote that...

They actually alternate between 5 and 15 year intervals, but apart from that I agree with you entirely. For canon's sake, I remember the dates as 2050, 2200 and 2350, since they seem closer to similar levels in TS2.
